There are many questions computer users may have. My students certainly have a ton of questions they present me with everyday!

How would you like me to initiate some questions that you may have regarding the computer and the way it works?  Even if your response is negative in nature, I am going to proceed.

In order to receive your online computer diploma (maybe), you need to be able to answer at least 80% of the following questions:

Question #1:  (Give it your best) A recent visitor to this website asked about formatting a hard drive.  The question is, "How do I install my new hard drive?"

Follow the steps below:

bullet

Handle the drive carefully.

Do not touch any exposed circuitry or chips.

bullet

Prevent other people from touching any exposed microchips on the drive.

bullet

When you first take the drive out of the static-protective package, touch the package containing the drive to a screw holding an expansion card or cover, or to a metal part of the computer case, for at least two seconds.  This will drain the static electricity from the package and from your body.

bullet

If you must set the drive down outside the static-protective package, place it component-side-up on top of the static-protective package on a flat surface.

bullet

Do not place the drive on the computer case cover or on a metal table.

bullet

For most installations, you will used an IDE connection on the system board or motherboard.  If you are using an IDE connection on the system board or motherboard, use the primary IDE connection before you use the secondary IDE connection.

bullet

Next, locate the connection and make certain the data cable will reach from the drive bay to the connection.

bullet

Remember, most computer cases have a wire for the hard drive light on the front of the case.

bullet

Identify the wire and locate where the pins are on the system board for the wire
